Whispering Nature

This artwork is the final submission from the artist Benjamin Frémiot for the 'Humanity' event by the Faerian gallery. The artist created this piece in 3 days, inspired by a prompt that was submitted by the public. In a unique twist, instead of being interpreted by an AI, this time the prompt was brought to life by a human artist. The entire creative process was livestreamed online and at the NFC Lisboa event.

How is your final artwork related to the prompt? -- I took inspiration from the prompt to create a small paeceful forest with some grass and tree leaves moving in rhythm with the wind, during a sunset where the rays of sunlight filter through the trees and grass. The mood bing a feeling of serenity while you watch ths sun sets and the nature free to wake up its magic in this harmonious place.

Why did you choose this prompt? -- I enjoy nature and the Sun a lot, how they help us get back to our center and inner peace. And I love creating scenes with fluid motion with TouchDesigner, so it was combining various things I enjoy ^^ But other prompts were really tempting too!

Explain more your creative process: -- When reading the prompts, I had this vision of movement from the grass in a field. So I began by setting up a simple flow of long grass. I extended it with time with several layers and delayed movement to feel more natural and add variety.

Then I added some basic tress that I created using LSystems in TouchDesigner. This LSystem technique was new to me, so I tried following some tutorials to have a 1st version of basic tress to block my scene. Which I did; but with some performance issues when moving the trees branches, so I decided that I would only have movements on the tree leaves.

These last months I studied the different phases of the sun, and recently it was the Golden Hour; so I wanted to depict that time of the day. Which led me to create a sunset with some gradients of color and god rays to have the sun light filter through the nature.

But then, as Faerian is a lot about fantasy, I was in the mood of adding fairies into the scene. And what a better time to do that than during the night with some glowing magical lights !? So I extended the scene to continue until night fall and have the nature reveal its magical secret with the fairies coming out of the trees. I wanted them to be joyful and luminous, so I used particles glowing and moving around some attracting point to create some kind of magical air choreography. And finally, added some Sacred Geometry on the trunk of a tree revealing at the same time than the fairies.

Everything was prototyped and done in TouchDesigner. Except the Tree leaves texture than I found on the web, and the Sacred Geometry that I generated with the OmniGeometry software.

A last comment? -- Thanks for this cool event, it was really nice, and my 1st ever live event. The team and the other artists where really nice, and it give a feeling of community that's really enjoyable
