Collaboration of traditional Japanese dyeing and Ukiyoe
This work is a creation of a cat and a woman in the image of Ukiyoe. The woman depicted is Konohanasakuyahime, a goddess from Japanese mythology and the origin of the word for cherry blossoms. The kimono she is wearing and the background are made of traditional Japanese kimono of Kyo-yuzen, and the design and the colors of herb-dyeing give the work a dignified and delicate expression. In Japan, there is an ancient goddess of spring named Sahohime, who brings spring to the land by sprouting plants and trees after the winter. This work depicts Konohanasakuyahime, who received the baton from Sahohime, riding a large crane and bringing beautiful cherry blossoms to the fields and mountains.
