Introducing
With an ancient dragon at the heart of the British Museum, this collection creates an open dialogue across time and culture, with a twist of humour.
This is part of a series, in which I celebrate The Year of the Dragon with a fusion of reality and imagination, history and modernity, as well as Eastern and Western styles. Often perceived as a fire-breathing creature with aggressive undertones in Western cultures, the dragon holds a distinct role as a spiritual emblem representing auspicious powers and harmony in Asia. By positioning an ancient dragon at the heart of the British Museum, my work seeks to create an open dialogue across time and culture, with a twist of humour. My process combines traditional painting and digital techniques: starting from pen on paper, I transported the draft digitally and the manipulated the colours to create a sense of surprise and celebration.
This project is featured by Stargaze.Zone on their frontpage for a week, from 2024-04-19 to 2024-04-26. It was selected as the winner of their "Canvas Launchpad Feature" open call from nearly a hundred submissions. Prior to this, the series has been physically exhibited at Goldsmiths, University of London, as part of their Chinese New Year Gala.
I plan to release other pieces in the series, following this launch. Some images are attached.
