Metal Rain
Midst rubble, smoke, and anguished sirens that cried,
The angel sat among those that died,
Its glorious wings now battered, worn,
From witnessing the metal storm.
Shards screamed through the darkened sky,
Raining fire, dealing death below,
No mercy shown, no tears too dry,
As meteoric missiles sowed their woe.
The angel stirred, looked on aghast,
At twisted metal, lives unfairly claimed,
Bleak hopes were dashed, shattered and laid waste,
By these storms, so harshly aimed.
It rose on weakened legs, faltering,
And walked among the fallen dead,
Their eyes still open, staring blindly,
At nothing now their blood was shed.
The angel roared in righteous rage,
And raised its sword to furious skies,
To witness this, yet not engage,
A torture to its very eyes.
No more, the angel swore an oath,
To save these people, ease their pain,
Banishing the metal rain by force,
If that is what the act would take.
On wounded wing and prayer, it soared,
To end the storms of metal rain no more,
Resolved to fight, to never ignore,
The raining flames born of human ire.
