Interpersonal

interpersonal relationships study project

Interpersonal is a study about human relationships and how they contribute to the growth of each person as the basis of life in society.

In the artwork, through geometric shapes, the different types of human relationships are represented (affective, family, superficial, circumstantial, rivalry, etc.). Some will be long-lasting and others will only be temporary.

In the artwork, the person’s personality will be shaped by their different types of relationships. Depending on the social skills of each person, the shapes will be larger and more complex or smaller and simpler. Sometimes the shapes will cross-interact and sometimes they can be chaotic and messy.

The management of interpersonal relationships is the basis of human personality and an unavoidable factor in our way of living. This means that these relationships are essential in our journey and that they can be a source of enormous satisfaction, or much suffering, depending on the choices we make and the type of ties we establish with others.

More balanced relationships with others tend to generate individuals who are socially healthier, more flexible and tolerant, or at least with more tools to integrate into the group and manage more successfully with others.

In each iteration of the collection, different personality types can be represented (selfish, empathetic, extroverted, introverted, rebellious, and conservative).

I have also wanted to represent the importance of social networks as a turning point in interpersonal relationships, since they have modified habits and behaviors as well as the way in which people relate, with their advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps they have distorted the meaning of the word friendship, since it seems that now, in a social network, everyone can be a “friend” of someone, even if it is not real. However, we have been adapting to these new relationships that arise in the network at the same time that technology evolves.

Human relations is a topic that has fascinated me since I read that various studies carried out in the first half of the 20th century showed that a large number of orphaned babies who were raised without human contact, they were only fed, died, and those who did not die were much more prone to disease and psychological problems. This led me to reflect on the topic, concluding that interpersonal relationships are essential for human life, and this reflection has inspired me to carry out this project.

Starting from simple elements such as points, lines and circles, I have built this abstract generative artwork that tries to symbolize the human personality and how the relationships we have affect us and shape our personality, the result is a wide variety of interactive compositions that are very interesting visually, even sometimes hypnotic. The personality of each person and their social “circles” take a few seconds to fully form, while this is happening you can stop the representation and continue whenever you want.

I leave the interpretation of each collection elements in the hands of the viewer and invite them to reflect on their own interpersonal relationships. For a better experience I recommend observing the artwork from 2 or 3 meters away.
